A book of 365 days – A beautiful rhythm

AUM

It was a usual day when i walked through the supermarket in the subway. As i was about to exit, a beautiful wave of rhythm grabbed my attention. I could a hear someone playing extremely pleasant music. I dont know what happened to me but the music was pulling me towards itself just like a magnet. I was not able to stop, when i reached the source it was not only me but a bunch of people were lost in the music which the man was playing. Without even thinking , i opened my phone and started to capture the whole performance . Although i was making sure i capture every bit of the performance in my phone i was still lost in the music.

Some people have magic in their hands , yes they do, and i could see a classic example of this magic in the music. I always talk about passion on my post , but this time it was not only passion that i was seeing in this performance but also a sense of satisfaction in doing something that your heart wants to do.

I was virtually not hearing anything else but the music that the man was playing. Later i noticed there was his violin case kept open in front of him for keeping tips , i kept thinking what should i do , what this man would have earned playing this music all day ? I was in a state of dilemma . I pulled out some change and started walking toward him and as a i bent to drop the money i could see his case filled with money , i was surprised he had earned a lot. I am sure the man had more money collected in his case than what it was in my wallet. This was a sheer evidence of appreciation of his talent.

I would not call him a beggar , no i wouldn’t. And after walking away  i kept thinking what would i call these people ?? Artist or beggar ? My answer was clear to me he was an artist, but still there people in this world who call them beggar because they are on the streets. But i call them people with a natural talent , surviving against all the odds of life.

A book of 365 days – The most exciting moment of 2013

AUM

As always it was the most busy time of the year for me at work. Hopped into a new project , leaving my previous forever. After i finished my intial phase of project, It was time for some break. Holiday , i never liked travelling , but looks like destiny was about to change my perception this time. I never knew what was in store for me in this holiday, i was so looking forward to it. It was Kashmir , yes folks it was the heaven on earth Kashmir where i was travelling to for my 9 days of holiday.

After i had confirmed booking , i casually looked at my itenary , and the day 1 was quit interesting for me. It said , travel to Gulmarg and reaching the peak point and you will be allowed to play in snow for some time. It sounded quite interesting to me . More i felt like a typical movie location where the songs or action sequences were shot. Nevertheless , the journey towards gulmarg had begun. after a couple of hours of ride , the bus took a halt near some shops and were given fur coats. It was a bit sunny , i was not wearing too may woolens , and was astonished to handed over a huge fur coat and boots. Woo it was heavy , but anyways i took it.  As we progressed further towards gulmarg , it became colder colder and colder.  The vehicle dropped us to a point from we were supposed to walk towards , a cable car point which was going to take us further.

I started walking and this is how i looked after wearing that heavy fur coat . It was going to be a exhaustive walk , and it was getting colder.

gulmarg1

We kept walking for almost 30 mins and then took a break , it was going to be a long walk . I was preety sure about it. After almost 90 mins of walking we reached the cable car station . My guide told me from here you will go to phase 1 and 2 , Phase 2 is 16000 feet above sea level .

My jaws immideately dropped. I had never done this. I was not even sure if i should do it. Well one thing was for sure, there was no looking back. I went ahead , i some how managed to board the car with the heavy fur coat on my body. It started progressing. Believe me folks the view that i got as we started going up was astonishing.

gulmarg 2

That was it , within no time we landed on the phase 2 it was peak point 16000 feet above sea level. When i was down there at cable car station , i  was sweating due to exhaustive walk of 90 mins. But now i was freezing , I felt the fur coat i wore was still not enough for me. I needed some more.

But the most freaking moment of my life was when i reached the point where i was sitting , and this was the most freaking moment of my life . I was on top of the world.  I took of my cap , my ears were numb , i couldnt feel my fingers , but i still wanted my one picture to be clicked.

gulmarg 3

This was it , i on top of the world. I wondered , why i didnt come here all my life. I should have, But it was no time for these thoughts , i wanted to enjoy this moment. And i did.

The most exciting moment of 2013. By the time i was back to my hotel i was half dead. I could not walk , but i enjoyed it.

For now this is Shwetal signing off from this place. Hast la vista

Peak point 15000 ft

AUM

It was 5 AM in the morning in Srinagar.  Drizzling outside , it was still dark , Ishfaaq was at the door waiting for me to open it. I forced myself out of bed and went to the door.

“Hot water is ready Saheb!” Said Ishfaaq . Yes in 10 degrees of cold weather in Srinagar i was supposed to take a bath. I had no choice otherwise i would stink for the rest of my day. It was a plan to leave by 7 AM towards Gulmarg the most beautiful place in kashmir which we were about to visit. by 05:30 AM i was ready , so was my bag. I forced myself on the breakfast table . Of course you would not expect a person to be hungry on a breakfast table at 6 AM in the morning. I did not a complete 8 hour sleep so was feeling a bit tired.  But the excitement of me going to Gulmarg kept me alive.

While having breakfast , i asked Ishfaaq to pack some for me , so i can fill my tummy once if i feel hungry . Ok it was now time to leave. Heavy vehicles are supposed to leave Srinagar by 07:15 AM in the morning. So we made it a point that we have our vehicle ready by 06:30 AM so we are out of srinagar by 07:15. Though i was refreshed i did not realize when i fell asleep inside the bus. And when i woke up, i was out of Srinagar and my eyes went to a beautiful which we were passing by .

2013-05-15 12.10.57

We were approaching Tangmarg in 2 hours time and from there i was supposed to pick up my fur coat and gum boots. Now you guys would be already knowing all this would be required. I was enjoying the hot sip of kahwa after i collected my fur coat. I was supposed to go to the nearest cable car station from where we were supposed to go the the phase 2 of peak point 15000 feet , and i am not joking i was about to reach 14500 feet above sea level on a peak , from where the line of control (the Pakistan occupied Kashmir was not too far) . And within an hour we were at the cable car station .  The cable  car station had a big queue of people ready to board the cable car. In Gulmarg its called ‘The Gondola’.  I boarded the Gondola and was set to reach the phase 2 in 15 minutes .

I am not kidding the peak point i am mentioning was just 20 mins away from the cable car station and i am not surprised . The cable car station itself was at 8000 feet above sealevel. So reaching 15000 was like a piece of cake.  So within no time i was approaching the beautiful valley in Gulmarg Kashmir. It was freezing cold as i walked out of Gondala. I bet if i would have not had my leather gloves i would have died. I was barely able to walk on the snow.  I some how managed to stabilize myself.

My ear muscles went numb. I was not feeling them at all.  While on the other end on the valley i was able to see people doing ice skeeing and ride on the sledge. And suddenly i was approached by a local man in the valley.

“Would you like to see the LOC (Line of Control) Pakistan border”

I was very curious at that moment. But i had stories of people getting robbed and killed in the valley. So i did not take the risk . I asked my Sister who was with me to take a picture of mine as souvenir from the valley in Gulmarg.

Here i am at peak point 15000 ft above sea level . Well don’t know if i was really , but i did feel i was on top of the world.

The Bell boy in houseboat – Ishfaq

                                                                                     AUM

It was 12th May 2013 , when a flight from Mumbai Landed in Srinagar . Outside temperature was announced as 12 degrees. It was quite surprising for me. As this time of the year , Srinagar is supposed to be in its 20’s . As i looked out from the window , i could see drops of water on the window shield and i saw it was raining out side. I just got excited as i was going to visit a place which is called “Heaven on Earth- Kashmir ” . Few mins later i got out of the aircraft and approached to the respective belt to collect my baggage. My tour manager had planned everything perfect , the concerned person was waiting outside the airport . We were soon taken to the parking place where vehicles were arranged to escort us to the houseboats which we were going to stay for next 2 days.

As we approached the parking lot , we were mobbed by a group of kashmiri locals , who wanted to help us with our luggage. They spoke with us in kashmiri , i kept looking at them with a blank face , as if i am not at all understanding anything.  Kashmiri’s have a culture of working in unity and understanding. I did not understand a single word they spoke, however i was astonished by their profound unity to work together. I was carrying 4 huge trolley bags , each of them would have easily weighed 20 kg’s minimum.  The locals took all the luggage from us and placed them on top of cars so easily as if they weighed just 5 kgs.

OK so now that i had formally began my drive from Srinagar airport to Nigeen Lake where , houseboats awaited our arrival.  After around 30 mins of drive we arrived at Nigeen lake where a few shikara’s were arranged to transport our luggage to the assigned house boats.

2013-05-14 06.09.01

As our luggage arrived in shikara , a plush wooden houseboat was waiting for us to get checked in. It was tough time for me to get the luggage from Shikara to houseboat terminal. Well i call that place a houseboat terminal , dont really know what it is called really. While i was taking my luggage out. There came a helping hand behind me. And it was a boy in his 20’s giving me helping hand for my luggage , the way he was working i could easily make out that he was the bell boy of houseboat. A very innocent face in his 20 ‘s , was pushing hard to get the luggage out of the shikara.

I kept looking at him, and i felt a sense of appreciation for him inside me. This was the time i could realize that these locals here are so hardworking.  Ishfaq took us through the houseboat and guided us well.

After i was settled in the houseboat with my family , i ha a quick lunch and i came back to my houseboat by shikara.  It was nice chilling weather in Srinagar as it has been raining all day. The view from my house boat was amazing as you could see in the below image. 2013-05-14 06.08.46

2013-05-14 06.54.30

After lunch i felt like sipping a hot coffee near the lake , so i asked Ishfaq to get me one. After a few mins i had a coffee cup in my hands. I felt like i should ask Ishfaq something. He was standing at a distance away from me. I called him and asked. ” So how do the locals survive here. I mean whats the main source of income for them”

“Tourism Sir.” He said. ” Those who are below poverty line are given only 35 Kgs ( for the whole year) of grains to survive. “

I was moved hearing this. When i look back at myself. How much money we people have and how much we actually require and how much we end up wasting and these people they get only 35 kgs for the whole year.

Anyways , i knew for the fact that there is nothing i could do at that moment apart from hearing his story . But yes i believe we could bring a change withing our own self when we look at people like Ishfaq. The next day i went out as per my plan and in the evening i was supposed to check out to move towards Pahalgam.

While i did my usual formalities , it was Ishfaq standing next to me giving me a smile ” Sir could you do something for our tip “

I absolutely had no clue as to what do i do. Completely in the state of confusion , i pulled out a Rs 50 note from my pocket and handed it over to him as courtesy. I kept thinking if that 100 Rs Note was going to change anything in his life . But this is what is life all about for people like Ishfaq. People like us who with a great difficulty are able to pick up the luggage we carry , for them its a profession which would give them money. Hope someday things would change.

For now this is Shwetal signing off from here…… Back from Kashmir heaven on earth.

Sands of time …..in my memories

AUM

There i was , looking back  in time where i left those beautiful memories of life time. Memories that make me smile , laugh and at times cry. Why don’t these moments last forever . I asked myself why ? And there came the answer when i saw the sands of time lying next to the beach, where i took a brisk walk . Looking at the sun which was setting down for the day . Something to say but after all it was to come back with another day. Making this day , just another memory which i would find in the sands of time.

sandsoftimeI met people , friends , closed one’s . All of them passed by me and they were my dear one’s , with whom i spent my time . With Joy and fun , smiles and run . Laughter and tears , in all those times. Now they are my memories , in those sands of time. All these years i used to think , you all will come back with those memories, which will again some day , make me smile . And this smile will again become a memory , which i will find in the sands of time.

Time is a cycle. Which will keep running , as moments pass, days pass , years pass. And then i met you , with a smile walking next to the sands of time. Those beautiful hairs on the face, with a cute smile and the moment stopped. Stopped till eternity. I kept looking at you. Those beautiful eyes , and my heart said this is the one whom you were supposed to meet. I suddenly realized , this was going to be a memory , which will live in the sands of time. Looking at you i said ” Oh god , let this memory not die in the sands of time , i want this moment last forever.” And i realized looking at the sun , that it was you holding my hand walking with me , on the same beach where i found my sands of time.

Now these sands are in my memories and you are with me forever , walking on the same beach . Each i look at the sun , thank him , for giving me this time with you , and i looked the sands of time . ” Thanking it , for giving me you. Who is holding my hand forever.

It was you who brought the same time back , fun and smile , happiness and laughter. And there i thank you god for giving me those memories which will always live with me in ” The sands of time”
