Human Intelligence Vs Machines

I kept wondering today what to write about, and suddenly my eyes went to a book. A very old one, i had learnt that subject during my college days. Its a marvel in technology what we call as AI ( Artificial Intelligence). Intelligence the word that we use very commonly at times almost daily. But what is the meaning of intelligence . Is it all about being able to solve every damn puzzle that comes in front of you. Or being good at Algebra or Calculus. After reading the first 10 pages of the book on AI, i realized one thing , intelligence is not simply being brilliant into something but it was all about doing the right thing.

So here comes another question, how do we humans do the right thing ? If all of us would have been doing the right thing then there would be no terrorism, no crime no hatred in this world. So lets keep this discussion in an ideal scenario where , i want someone to do right things. SO what would be my approach.

Imagine the time when you were just 3 or 4 years old, born in this world looking around with people telling you tons of things. So what did you do with that information ? ” Learned and adapted.

So learning and Adaptation is one of the important factors to intelligence. And of course it would be better if you have both cognitive and rational approach. You are also supposed to be drawing inferences from what you see.  So when you look at a chocolate pie you would get attracted to it thinking it would be sweet ?

So what did you do just now ? You were already adapted to the environment and learnt it . All you did just now was used a rational approach of your brain and drew an inference which led you to get attracted towards that chocolate pie. Similarly when you see something you are scared off you would get away from it ,again drawing an inference of getting harmed from something.

So now we can easily say that humans have the capability to draw inferences and have an approach towards thinking , thats what we call intelligence. What i am writing now would not be new to people who would have mastered AI but it would be a good start for those people who don’t know anything about it.

Now if i want a machine to think like human , i must first have a deep understanding towards how human think and that’s human psychology , though difficult but still needs a rational approach get something out. But, yes a machine would think like human only if it is able to adapt learn and change itself according to the environment in which it is operating. It is natural to have rules in an environment but its all about the approach which would led this happen.

Is Socialism right ??

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars – something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Can you think of a reason for not sharing this?

Neither could I.

Not necessary, everyone will agree. But good write up !!!!!

Excellent Article written by someone.

Yesterday, I was driving, and the FM radio went off for few seconds. I thought, I should have an iPod. Then suddenly I realized that I have not used my iPod in last 6 months. And then, more things, Handy cam in last 2 years, Digital Camera in last 2 months, DVD player in last 1 month and many more.

Now I can say that I bought that Handy cam just out of impulse, I have used it twice only in last 4 years. So, what’s wrong and where?

When I look at myself or my friends I can see it everywhere. We are not happy with what we have but all are stressed and not happy for the things we don’t have. You have a Santro, but you want City; You have a City, but you want Skoda. Just after buying a new phone, we need another one. Better laptop, bigger TV, faster car, bigger house, more money, and I mean, these examples are endless.

The point is, is it actually worth?

Do we ever think, if we actually need those things before we want them?

After this, I was forced to think what I need and what I don’t. May be I didn’t need this Handy cam or the iPod or that DVD player.

When I see my father back at home. He has a simple BPL colour TV, he doesn’t need 32″ Sony LCD wall mount. He has a cell phone worth Rs 2,500. Whenever I ask him to change the phone, he always says, “It’s a phone; I need this just for calls.”And believe me; he is much happier in life than me with those limited resources and simple gadgets.

The very basic reason why he is happy with so little is that he doesn’t want things in life to make it luxurious, but he wants only those things which are making his life easier.
It’s a very fine line between these two, but after looking my father’s life style closely, I got the point. He needs a cell phone but not the iPhone. He needs a TV but not the 32” plasma. He needs a car but not an expensive one.

Initially I had lot of questions.I am earning good; still I am not happy…why? I have all luxuries; still I am stressed…. ……why? I had a great weekend, still I am feeling tired…… why?

I met lot of people, I thought over it again and again, I still don’t know if I got the answers, but certainly figured out few things. I realize that one thing which is keeping me stressed is the “stay connected” syndrome. I realized that, at home also I am logged in on messengers, checking mails, using social networks, and on the top of that, the windows mobile is not letting me disconnected. On the weekend itself, trying to avoid unwanted calls and that is keeping my mind always full of stress.

I realized that I am spending far lesser money than what I earn; even then I am always worried about money and more money.

I realized that I am saving enough money I would ever need, whenever needed. Still I am stressed about job and salary and spend.

May be, many people will call this approach “not progressive attitude”, but I want my life back.

Ultimately it’s a single life, a day gone is a day gone. I believe if I am not happy tonight, I’ll never be happy tomorrowmorning.

I finally realized that meeting friends, spending quality time with your loved one’s; spending time with yourself is the most important thing.

If on Sunday you are alone and you don’t have anybody to talk with, then all that luxuries life, all that money is wasted.

May be cutting down your requirements, re-calculating your future goal in the light of today’s happiness is a worthwhile thing to do.

May be selling off your Santro and buying Honda City on EMIs is not a good idea. I believe putting your happiness ahead of money is the choice we need to make.

I think, a lot can be said and done but what we need the most is re-evaluation of the value of happiness and time we are giving to our life and people associated with it.

Think about it……

Knowing Thyself….

How many of you actually know who you really are ? Living in a myth , blindfolded from the reality. Knowing your purpose. If  i talk about a population of 1000 , then i would say , 900 people don’t know who they really are. Knowing your name is not your identity . Identity is always given to people who know their purpose, why are they in this world. Why were they born. Not many would accept it but yes , its a unfortunate truth. It is not really difficult to know who you are, problem is no one makes a honest attempt. Its a enlightenment. And why not have it.

“The one who knows others is wise , the one who knows himself is enlightened.”

Lau Tzu

I wanted to know myself who i really was, and not by my name, but what i want to do. When i faced the world where people, at any point of time were ready to bring you down, discourage you and are ready to demotivate you. I was scared. Of course that is because i didn’t know at that point who i really was and what i was supposed to do. I felt emancipated in this world. I was not free. I was blindfolded from the reality of the purpose that was assigned to me. The most amazing thing ever happened in my life was this blog.

when i was  in my 5th Grade , we used to given topics to write essays on. I had no clue as to what to write. I used to repeat my sentences just to make my essays look bigger and the quality of which was shown in the scores which the teacher gave me. Never realized what was lacking in me. And the same quality continued there after.

Whatever i am writing right now, is all after i got to know myself, my potential, my skills. I am not judging my self , all i am trying to do is knowing thyself.

When Neo enters Oracle’s apartment , he is puzzled , his question of whether is he “The One” was running like a speed of light in his mind. From what i understood was, him being blindfolded from the reality of the fact that , the world in which he is living is not the real one. He needed to be emancipated. Likewise there are many people in this world, who need emancipation , from the nice silk cloth which has blindfolded them from the reality and their own purpose.

“The first thing you have to know is yourself. A man who knows himself can step outside himself and watch his own reactions like an observer.”

Write worth reading and read worth writing about….

Let me make a honest confession today. I really had no clue as to what to write. If i write something crap, will anyone read ? well the answer is no. So what to write i kept thinking. I don’t want to make anyone yawn while they read this. All you folks have read my previous articles on love , happiness , spirituality , motivation. So keeping all things aside i will write about writing today. It was 8 months back i started this blog. I had no clue what kind of an author i was going to be , all i knew  was that i am going to write . And eventually, people should like it. Now why would someone like whatever i am writing. I felt more like a sales guy who was convincing others to read his posts. Now i felt it is not me who is going to convince you who are reading this, but the words that come to life after you finish every line you read.

Right now at this moment of time you are reading this , so tell me whats running in your mind ? This guy is again trying to sell something. And i can bet a million dollars here that you are going to continue reading even after this line. Why ? Well the only answer to this question is you people like me writing all these things on my blog. Some of you even follow my blog and a real thanks from the bottom of my heart for the same. And another obvious answer to this question as to why you like reading me is . Because i feel i write worth reading, Now i am not praising my self , its just that i have learned this by my experience. I haven’t got too many followers on my blog . Its 18 as of now may be after reading this one i would add a couple of more to this blog.

And of course, everyone’s invited to this blog. There are no boundaries to who is reading this. If whatever i am writing is worth reading , then any national from any ethnicity is welcome on this blog and read what i am writing. Only when i write worthy , you will read worthy. My ultimate goal is not money via this blog but people liking it. After all this whatever is my reward will be the blessings of god.

 Winston Churchill said

I am never going to have anything more to do with politics or politicians. When this war is over I shall confine myself entirely to writing and painting.

Winston Churchill

Writing has life. If he is ready to confine himself to writing and painting . I believe anyone can live it. Winston Churchill was passionate towards what he wanted to do.

I tried hard to confine myself to writing . Though i have not confined myself to writing but yes its a beginning towards an achievement.

Giving life to words…..

The Secret Life of Words

The Secret Life of Words (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I had never thought that i was going to be come a blogger . Had never thought that i would have some writing skills inside me. Good or bad i guess let people decide. While posting a lot of articles on my blog , i ended up  reading a quote .

It said ” Words when printed have a life of their own. ”  How true and realistic.  I have experienced it myself. To be very frank , i never liked reading, I always felt lazy while reading any book. But as i developed reading habits , i also developed the habit of visualization. Each of the words that i read from the book became character in front of me .

My favorite fiction author is Sydney Sheldon. I love reading his fiction work . Each time i used to read him i always felt i was inside some Hollywood movie. The best one was ” If tomorrow comes ” . I really wonder how can some one write so well that the words he wrote become pictures for me and used to talk to me. Every word that was written used to come alive in front of me.  Be it a scene where Tracy Whitney is fighting for her life or a scene where she would admire a prince charming. Not many of us actually take this seriously but i am sure avid readers after reading my post would agree to what i was trying to say. When i read this book ” If tomorrow comes” for the first time i was completely engrossed in the book.

Each time i used to read a word in the book at a very fast pace it used to come into life in front of me. Like an example where Tracy is supposed to run away from the prison but she suddenly saw wardens little baby drowning in water and in a flash of light she starts running towards the child thinking about no one but to save the poor little child.

Did these words come alive for you ? Think … think twice. Read the excerpt again. What did you visualize ? When you read the 3 lines above. I can guarantee those who have strong visualization power would have definitely visualized something. Although what i wrote in those 3 lines would be a bit disconnected as  it is a part of the novel , but overall from a sane mind if someone thinks visually , he or she would have definitely seen these words coming to life.

In fact , what i am writing right now would come to life for you. As you read them feel the words and visualize the words i am writing. This not only increases the concentration of an individual towards a specific thing , place or person any thing for that matter. This process of visualization is very creative. It not only gives life to the words we are reading but the thoughts that come in our minds. It is very true , though it might sound a bit spiritual but a fact. Those who know what i am trying to talk about would have realized my direction .

There is a direct interaction of multiple organs of our body when we read something. This is how i would explain how these words come to life. Go back to my previous excerpt from the novel about Tracy Whitney running away from prison. Now when you read this sentence your eyes are the first place of the visualization . The eyes are sending a signal to our brain saying there is a woman may be in her 30’s who is trying to escape . Our brain automatically creates a image of a prison a woman and a child. And in turn visualizes the remaining.

This is how these words take life. And come in the form of pictures to us. Always believe in giving life to words. Everything that we see around has life . Even words.  I am sure people would enjoy reading after hearing one fact that words do have life.

For now… this is Shwetal Signing off from here…. Asta la vista… Enjoy reading and giving life to words that would remain forever in our minds in the form of memories which will remain with us in this life and the lives we live ever after.
